Hello everyone. I am asking for some help or advice. I'm trying to build the courage to ask my boss about getting a little amount of time off on a consistent. As of right now, we only get one guaranteed weekend day off, on call every other day, Mon to Friday 830 to 330 unless we have a funeral or whoever's night on to work calling hours. I don't think its unreasonable to ask for a day off during the week every other week. I'm trying to sort out some of my own health issues and it's hard to get to the gym, stay in shape, get my personal stuff done which is backed up since I cant make personal phone calls even at lunch since everything closes. It takes weeks to get in with my dr because most of his appointments are during the day. We only get 14 days vacation days and i haven't used much time off this year. My sleep is horrible and its effecting my mood and work performance. I'm really nervous about approaching my boss and I've been here for almost 11 years and its not like I can just up and quit nor do I want to. I just don't feel one weekend day is enough and there's no guarantee about the other weekend day which I don't want a whole weekend off. Not to mention a mother who's not in the greatest of shape health wise to help out and I have no help at home. Theres 3 of us and do maybe 125 calls or so a year. I feel I am a very good employee and have covered when asked and vice versa. It's my boss, his daughter and myself as directors. One minute she agrees with me and then the next feels hes lenient on what we get. I have to either leave ealry or come in late for my own personal appointments. I think I would be more productive if I had just a tad reasonable time during the week. Am I asking too much? My fear is if I keep going like this ill either end up in the hospital or having a breakdown which I'm on the verge of.
