How would you describe your relationship with death?
One. No proselytizing: Religious belief, spirituality and nonbelief are sacred. because they are sacred, we respect them. Because they are sacred we don't push them on others.
Two. No Advertising: DEATHub is a space where we can talk about personal stories, personal feelings and ideas. Those stories, feelings and ideas won't be exploited for personal or corporate gain.
Three. No Assholes: DEATHub only works if we are understanding and empathetic in our posts, comments, and when we're incidentally offended by another. We are a group that is full of good people, who have deep and sensitive stories. This is a place for those stories.
Scared. I am scared that it
Scared. I am scared that it will hurt. I am scared that after being a cradle Catholic and believing that there is a "heaven", is there really? I am scared that I will never see my loved ones again. Death has always been "mysterious" to me. The older I get, the scarier it is to me.
I am no stranger to talking about death. I actually enjoy discussions about ANYTHING to do with death customs and funeral service. Even just what happens after death and everything in between. It is a firm interest of mine. I know what I want for my funeral and am confident about it. So, in that regard, I have a pretty good relationship with death. However, no one wants to die. I'm not comfortable thinking that I could go at any day. It's terrifying to think that I'd no longer be here. I don't know if any of us would be entirely comfortable thinking about it without some fear, but I don't see anything wrong with that. Death isn't fun, but it's inevitable. So I'd consider my relationship with death to be developing. I'm prepared in many aspects, but I still have a lot to learn.
Afraid for my children
I have to admit I'm afraid of dying and I've watched 3 people die and was there when they took their last breath; my father, mother. and sister. I'm afraid of the end, not so much about the physical act of dying, but the emotional struggle. All 3 of my family members knew it was coming and they really struggled with leaving, and leaving people behind. My sister had her first grand-baby on the way and knew she'd never meet him. I know what it feels like to be left behind. It's so difficult and I hate to think of my children left behind to deal with it. I just pray they are adults when it happens.
I see it as both a soul and a
I see it as both a soul and a physical transition. I think it was in the movie "Phenomena" that John Travolta delivered the line "Everything is on it's way to becoming something else". I thought that was pretty succinct, and profound. I am not sure about what an afterlife may be like, (I've heard many many "theories") but.. I am not in fear of that transition. As for my physical body, personally, I feel that giving it back to the earth, from which EVERYTHING comes is only kind. (By that I mean, the kindest alternative.. by whatever method is relevant at the time it needs to go there!)... Although there is this service.. if one is cremated wherein some of the cremains are used to create a "diamond".. slightly blue in hue because of the boron in the bone. THAT seems like a nice thing to have available. http://www.lifegem.com/
